Join Thermo King as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer and help with shaping the next generation of transport refrigeration technology! In this role, you’ll develop and maintain enclosures for embedded electronics systems on transport refrigeration units that are produced by Thermo King.  Enclosures will be for automotive graded analog and digital electronic devices, controllers, displays, communication systems, and related components.  You’ll make a real impact across multiple Thermo King product platforms, supporting systems used around the world. This is a handson, highly technical role where you can apply your expertise in enclosure design, materials, and manufacturing, while also expanding your skills through exposure to a wide range of modern technologies.

Where is the work:  

From Monday to Thursday, work onsite with your colleagues in Minneapolis, MN. On Fridays, choose your work location, balancing what your work requires  

 

What you will do:    

  • Creating detailed designs for enclosures using CAD software, considering factors like size, shape, material selection, and manufacturing processes.

  • Choosing appropriate materials based on the enclosure's intended use, considering factors like strength, durability, cost, and environmental resistance.

  • Evaluating the enclosure's structural integrity using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to ensure it can withstand anticipated loads and environmental conditions.

  • Designing for proper heat dissipation to prevent overheating of components, potentially using heat sinks, fans, or other cooling solutions.

  • Ensuring the enclosure effectively shields against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) to prevent malfunctions.

  • Maintaining manufacturing instructions, drawings, and specifications for the enclosures

  • Evaluate analytical and experimental test results following engineering principles to verify that products meet technical requirements and validating that the design solutions meet customer needs.

  • Apply systematic problem-solving skills to define issues, identify root causes, develop, qualify, and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.

  • Develop and coordinate detailed testing; interpret, condense and present test data/results.

  • Maintain orderly project records.   Document and communicate project status as required both verbally and in written form.                                                                                                 

  • Release engineering component prints in product life cycle management systems.

 

 

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline) and at least 5 years of hardware development work experience is required. Master’s Degree is a plus.

  • Strong background with rugged PCB enclosure design for automotive/industrial applications (IP67/IP69, etc.).

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Creo).

  • Basic understanding of injection molding and mold construction.

  • Strong understanding of material science, manufacturing processes, and structural analysis.

  • Experience with thermal management and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

 

Compensation:    

Annual Pay Range: $105,000 – 135,000
