Trane Technologies is hiring a Team Leader I in Charlotte, NC at our Trane remanufacturing plant. The team is looking for a Team Leader to oversee the Compressor assembly lines.

Job Summary:
A skilled Team Leader will lead and work alongside of a manufacturing team that assembles, and trouble shoots commercial HVAC compressors and subassemblies. An individual in this role will be required to oversee and perform assembly and inspection and testing of HVAC compressor components.
As a team leader the employee needs to possess manual dexterity and an eye for detail. They must also have knowledge of mechanics and the proper use and care of both precision measurement tools and a variety of cleaning equipment. This individual must have a strong understanding and respect for all safety precautions and all safety rules within an industrial assembly and remanufacturing operations.
As the department leader this individual must be able to operate all workstations within the assembly and testing department by being certified and able to flex to those stations, operate equipment, be able to read technical drawings and documents to inspect components parts for conformance to dimensional requirements, and sort out non-conforming components. Must understand and be able to use precision measuring tools to qualify product components for use while meeting production goals for takt and cycle time. The individual must have good problem-solving skills and the ability to strategically plan ahead.
The individual will be responsible for evaluating options to resolve production/quality problems pertaining to assembly and testing of compressors and determining the best course of action to ensure safety, quality, and production. They must be able to make judgement calls on parts acceptance based on visual perceptions and historical knowledge.
The individual must have the ability to make good decisions and understand when to involve other resources, such as maintenance, quality, EHS, engineering and supervision. Must be able to operate, perform routine maintenance, and accomplish basic troubleshooting of a variety of testing equipment. Must be active in training of other employees and helping them gain experience and knowledge.
A qualified Team Leader must have prior experience with the inspection of assemblies and components for commercial air conditioning systems, or similar equipment of equivalent complexity, and must have experience in an industrial production environment performing mechanical assembly, quality checks, testing operations, and troubleshooting.
A qualified Team Leader must have good interpersonal skills, be well organized, and have good leadership skills. As a team leader the employee will oversee the work of other employees and be able to effectively coach, guide, and direct the work team to achieve maximum productivity safely and effectively, maintain good morale of the work team, and contribute to creating and maintaining an excellent work environment/culture.
A qualified leader for this position should ideally have prior experience in mechanical assembly and experience in an industrial production environment. This position will include performing work content in compressor assembly operations meeting quality and productivity requirements. Work content includes, but is not limited to, assembling compressors and/or compressor component sub-assemblies. Must be willing to cross train to provide flexibility within the area and be willing to work hours needed to meet business needs.
The goal is to ensure effective production operations that are safe, efficient, produce consistently high-quality products and optimize procedures.
Responsibilities Include:
• Update MDI boards and maintain simple metrics and prioritization
• Recommend work schedules and coordination of workforce planning
• Does job hazard assessments and simple EHS related tasks
• Develops and encourages team members to meet production targets
• Improve the line through simple problem solving and solution-oriented mindset
• Support the manufacturing process through technical skill such as welding or assembly
• Ensures all employees in their group have the tools they need to successfully complete their job; orders with vendor and/or escalates to management where appropriate
• Communicating and helping to resolve equipment/materials needs, process issues, and personnel issues with the manufacturing management team.
• Knowing and following all applicable environmental, health, and safety (EHS) rules in the performance of the job.
• Participating and fully supporting safety programs (ex. Connect & Engage).
• Being punctual and reliable by observing all work rules.
• Maintaining clean, safe, and organized work areas.
• Checking output to ensure consistency with specifications and identifying defects.
• Leading daily huddle and communicating company announcements and polices to the work team.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent. (Required)
· A minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment (Required)
· Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items, approximately 50 lbs. (Required)
· Proven experience as mechanical assembler, mechanic, or mechanical equipment technician. (Required)
· Experience as a leader with excellent interpersonal skills, in an industrial manufacturing environment. (Required)
· Ability to read technical mechanical assembly drawings and production documentation (ex.: Operation Method Sheets, work orders, Job Safety Hazard Analysis). (Required)
· Experience, understanding, and ability in the proper use and care of precision measurement tools to take accurate measurements. (e.g. veneer scale micrometers, calipers, dial gages, thread gages, and “go/no-go” gauges). (Required)
· Excellent understanding, and ability in the proper use and care of mechanics tools, (ex.: hand-tools, quality gages, pneumatic tools, electrical test equipment, etc.). (Required)
· Good aptitude for learning and performing cleaning and inspection of mechanical components. (Required)
· Good basic math with analytical abilities. (Required)
· Experience in using manual, semi-automated, or automated tools and machines to assemble and inspect assemblies and component parts for the remanufacture of commercial HVAC equipment, or similar equipment of equivalent complexity, in an industrial production environment. (Preferred)
· Knowledge of specialized manufacturing processes, such as welding, test equipment and operation of automatic and semi-automatic processing equipment. (Preferred)
· A working knowledge of mechanics, mechanical components, and mechanical systems is an advantage in this role.
· Ability to problem solve & troubleshoot using drawings, method sheets, assembly drawings and other technical documentation is an advantage in this role.
· Knowledge, training, or experience in Lean manufacturing concepts & principles is an advantage in this role.
