Job Summary:
The Sr. HVAC Laboratory Engineer helps develop Trane Technologies HVAC compressor products in the engineering R&D labs.  This engineer is responsible for designing and implementing test facilities and applying experimental methods for product development. This role encompasses many functions of laboratory engineering: designing and building of new test stands including sizing of subsystems, facility networking, programming PLC controls, standard test development, test planning, process controls, instrumentation, and test automation.  A successful candidate values safety and diversity and enjoys technical leadership, project management, design leadership, hands-on laboratory work, and problem-solving as part of a team.
Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):
•    Lead the design and build of new compressor test stands and experimental setups
•    Lead compressor development and validation test projects
•    Own test facilities’ capability and ensure equipment has the necessary capabilities and reliability to produce quality data
•    Coordinate with external vendors and contractors
•    Develop standard test procedures to drive test efficiency and lab throughput
•    Develop measurement systems for laboratory testing.
•    Develop expertise on advanced data acquisition systems.
•    Work closely with both laboratory technicians and design engineers.
•    Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, building codes, and health and safety standards.
•    Maintain test stand documentation.
•    Participate in continuous improvement activities such as 5S and implementing Lean principles
•    Up to 20% overnight travel required during the first year for training.  Less than 10% travel subsequent.
Minimum Qualifications:
•    Bachelor's degree in engineering or applied sciences and at least 7 years of compressor development or engineering laboratory experience OR a master's degree and at least 5 years of experience is required.
Key Competencies:
•    Must be a highly motivated team player
•    Excellent project management skills
•    Expertise in designing experimental facilities (mechanical, electrical, and controls design)
•    Experience using 3D CAD modeling.  
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and Outlook) required, with desire to learn basic programming in Visual Basic.
•    Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication to interface effectively across functions
•    Creative problem solver
•    Intellectual curiosity and continuous improvement mindset
•    Must be safety-minded and adhere to PPE requirements, as required

Base Pay for this position is $90,000-125,000.
