Where is the work: 

This position has been designated as On-Site and is considered a Safety Sensitive role. 

Shift: This is a second shift position (2:00pm - 10:00pm) that will require flexibility. 

Purpose

To define requirements, roles and responsibilities of the Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) in order to achieve optimal impact in the delivery of occupational health services at Trane Technologies                                           

Objectives

  • Develop, interpret and administer employee health, wellbeing and preventative health services.
  • Coordinate and manage medical surveillance and training as it relates to the Corporate Medical Services, Be Well and Environmental Health and Health (EHS) requirements.
  • Facilitate care/case management for work and non-work-related employee illness and injury.
  • To collaborate with Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) to develop, implement, and optimize injury and accident prevention programs as well as surveillance and reporting programs specific to operational needs.  

  

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

Case Management

  • Workers’ Compensation
  • Coordinate referrals to other providers, including scheduling appointments, attending doctors’ appointments with the employee as necessary, assisting with transportation needs, as necessary, etc.
  • Complete required forms for workers' compensation cases
  • Communicate with physician the diagnosis/prognosis, pertinent information including employee's limitations and availability of temporary alternative work
  • Monitor the employee's workers' compensation case to determine that optimal quality of care in a cost effective manner is achieved
  • Perform follow up evaluations of employees with detailed documentation of progress
  • Participate in workers’ compensation case reviews
  • Work with management and supervisor to coordinate the employee's return to normal or temporary alternative work

Absence Management

  • Assist with required forms for Absence Management cases
  • Communicate with physician the diagnosis/prognosis, pertinent information including employee's limitations and availability of temporary alternative work
  • Work with management and supervisor to coordinate the employee's return to normal or temporary alternative work

Medical Care

  • Post offer/Pre-Hire Job Specific Fitness for Duty Physical assessment
  • Coordinate and/or perform Drug and Alcohol screens (post offer/pre hire, random, post-accident or reasonable suspicion)
  • Perform periodic testing (Hearing/Vision/Respiratory/etc.)
  • Provide initial assessment of work-related injuries and illnesses and facilitate further evaluation including specialty care, as necessary
  • Provide direct care, including treatment of work-related injuries and illnesses using evidence based clinical guidelines and protocols (e.g. AAOHN/ACOEM clinical guidelines)
  • Emergency care
  • Annual seasonal influenza vaccine program
  • Provide work related vaccinations

Health and Wellness

  • Identify health, wellness and productivity opportunities for intervention, communication and plan deployment 
  • Serve as location Be Well Leader
  • Lead development and execution of annual Be Well plan
  • Coordinate biometric screening yearly
  • Coordinate health fairs
  • Coordinate wellness sessions (at least 2 per year) with outside healthcare professionals (e.g. “lunch and learn”)
  • Blood pressure checks/blood sugar checks

Training

  • Conduct training sessions for regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate First Responder training and certification, and First Responder team meetings at least quarterly

Consultation and Support

  • Provide counseling and referrals to medical benefits programs (e.g. Employee Assistance Program, Consumer Medical, etc.) as needed
  • Consult with managers regarding employee return to work and work restrictions
  • Consult with managers regarding regulations
  • Build teams and partnerships
  • Maintain collaboration and open communication with Corporate Medical Services; Be Well; EHS; supervisors; Human Resources; and outside medical care providers as needed
  • Attend EHS scheduled safety talks 

General

  • Ensure a safe working environment for self and coworkers by following regulatory agency and organizational policies and procedures
  • Promote a cooperative working environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building
  • Maintain compliance with all local state and federal occupational health and safety policies/standards
  • Coordinate and promote all Corporate Medical Services policies
  • Coordinate and promote all pertinent EHS Standards
  • Maintain accurate and complete occupational health records of employees
  • Maintain AED program with monthly checks
  • Maintain eye wash stations with monthly checks
  • Maintain stocked medical facility
  • Organize shoe truck visits
  • Organize and maintain Prescription Safety Glasses program

Basic Qualifications and Training

  • Required
    • Current State Licensure – Must have a current license as a Registered Nurse in the State where profession is practiced
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University (BSN)
    • Minimum 3-5 years of occupational health, case management, and clinical nursing experience required
    • First Aid / CPR / Bloodborne Pathogens/ Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) certification
    • Training in the use and proper fitting of all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. equipment that is worn to protect against safety and health hazards) (If required by facility)
  • Recommended
    • American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN) membership
    • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) / Case Management – Certification in Occupational Health is encouraged by Corporate Medical Services. This process is governed by the American Board for Certified Occupational Health Nurse (ABOHN) and certain requirements of employment and education must be met prior to examination
    • Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC). Education and certified training given to the Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) to prepare the individual for administering audiometric testing and programs. (If required by facility)

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of the medical services in the community in order to facilitate referrals (e.g. emergent, urgent or routine)
  • Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely clinical care flow
  • Exceptional ability to document, organize and maintain health related records
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience with general office programs and equipment
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain medical confidentiality and privacy
  • Flexible work schedule including working occasional overtime and holidays
  • Timely and effective communication as demonstrated through strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional customer service and time management skills
  • Demonstrate ability to work closely with corporate and location management teams (e.g. Be Well, EHS, Corporate Medical Services, location leaders, etc.) in the completion of goals and strategies
  • Knowledge of governmental regulatory requirements 

Compensation:   

The Base Pay Range for this role is $51,000 - $88,800. Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
