The Tribology (Summer) Intern will work for the Network of Excellence Materials & Chemistry team based in Minneapolis, MN, to support and execute Engineering and tribology-related projects. 

Job duties may include:

  • Design testing rig fixtures for the purpose of characterizing wear and overseeing their fabrication process.
  • Assist Laboratory Technicians and Engineers with part evaluations, failure analysis, sample preparation, and the development of test plans.
  • Provide support for the maintenance, calibration, and operation of materials laboratory instrumentation, which includes macro and micro photography, as well as wear profile scanning.
  • Collect data and assist in the interpretation of results to generate recommendations.
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • Draft or enhance internal standard operating procedures (SOP) concerning laboratory activities and equipment.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by maintaining cleanliness and adhering to company policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Full-time student or Bachelors or Master's degree student in Mechanical/Materials Engineering or a related major
  • Minimum Sophomore standing at time of application.
  • Knowledge of geometrical modeling, CAD tools, and mechanical design.

Upon starting employment, student will have completed the typical Freshman and Sophomore Engineering classes and corresponding laboratories. Entry-level PC skills are required, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. An unofficial copy of your collegiate transcripts may be requested. Seeking candidates eligible for employment in local country/region without visa or immigration sponsorship.
